NOTES:
Well no surprise at the top here then. The Strokes were the critics' favourites right through the year, Mercury Rev's album was pretty much the same as the one that got them the #2 placing in 1998 and Super Furry Animals, Spiritualized and Radiohead are always there or thereabouts.
Other old favourites also making expected returns included Dylan, Cave, Björk and REM.
Just missing out by a vote or two were Sparklehorse, Mull Historical Society, Andrew WK and Aphex Twin. Luke Haines released two solo albums and still didn't get anywhere. Most surprising of all was The Beta Band - hailed as the saviours of British rock a couple of years ago - disappearing off the radar screen at #87 with Hot Shots II.
