NOTES:
The whole year had been so heavily dominated by Suede that by the end, the critics were getting bored. Meanwhile The Auteurs' debut album promised much, but proved to be their only appearance in one of these charts. This is a disgrace. There have been another three classics since then and they've all missed out.
Missing out this time were Manic Street Preachers, whose Gold Against The Soul was dismissed far too easily and deserved better than #35, The Fall, Sabres of Paradise, Pearl Jam and Sven Vath.
