Originally intended in Abingdon Road days as a temporary measure, born of economic necessity, the communal changing room was new to Britain and became associated with Biba, with other stores following suit. For Big Biba the scale was lavish in the extreme, with a huge Egyptian-themed changing room, but the same caution applied as ever: ‘Please keep an eye on your valuables, especially your handbag, all the time.’
